Broadwood Pianoforte

John Broadwood Pianoforte (1796)

This pianoforte was made by John Broadwood & Sons, an English piano manufacturer famously appreciated by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The original instrument offered a five-and-a-half-octave range (F1 to C7), but in Pianoteq, it has been extended to a full 88 keys—just like all instruments in this collection.

With its crisp attack and quick decay, this pianoforte is ideal for performing Classical-period music.

Pleyel Grand Piano

Ignace Pleyel Grand Piano (1835)

Pleyel, one of France’s most esteemed piano makers, was founded in 1807 by Ignace Pleyel and earned admiration from renowned composers like Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and others for the quality of their instruments.

The distinct French romantic tone of this piano, with warm bass and colorful treble, makes it ideal for interpreting expressive, emotional pieces.

Frenzel Grand Piano

Johann Frenzel Grand Piano (1849)

Although little is known about this small piano manufacturer from Linz, Austria, this Pianoteq virtual copy of one of his grand pianos offers a rare opportunity to experience its unique sound: vibrant, dramatic at higher dynamics, and thoroughly romantic.

Bechstein Grand Piano

Carl Bechstein Grand Piano (1899)

Founded in 1853 in Berlin, Germany, the house C. Bechstein quickly became a leading piano manufacturer, favored by European royalty and prestigious musicians such as Edvard Grieg, Alexander Scriabin, and Béla Bartók.

With its design approaching that of a modern grand piano, the 1899 Bechstein offers a balanced, resonant tone that excels in romantic music as well as in jazz and other contemporary genres.
